The Goldendoodle is a Golden Retriever and a Poodle cross. The mother of our litters, Paisley, is a standard Goldendoodle, which is the result of a Golden Retriever bred to a Standard Poodle. Her mother is a Golden Retriever and her father is a Standard Poodle. The Goldendoodle gets it's name from it's mixed heritage. The Goldendoodle is a hybrid cross, a first generation cross, and as such they exhibit "hybrid vigor", this is a phenomenon in animal breeding referring to the fact that the first cross between two unrelated pure bred lines is healthier and grows better than either parent line. The Goldendoodle puppies take on the best traits of both parent breeds.
The Goldendoodle puppies born to Paisley have the blockier "teddy bear" looking heads. The coats range anywhere from smooth to more of a curly appearance, although not "frizzy" like a poodle's texture.. The colors range from a more common white, tawny color, to the more rare browns and blacks. Because Paisley was bred to a Standard Poodle the litter that she had produces more of a low to no shed or hypollergenic puppy
The Life expectancy for a Standard Goldendoodle is around 12-15 years. This of course depends on the size, condition and care of each individual dog. Most Goldendoodles shed very little or not at all, and Goldendoodles may not cause allergies. Because Paisley was bred back to a poodle, creating a F1-B the latter should hold true. Goldendoodles are relatively low maintenance. The Goldendoodle requires little grooming, some slight trimming of hair around the eyes is usually necessary. The hair in their ears should be kept short as well to prevent getting ear infections. Goldendoodles should be brushed frequently, so that they don't get matted.
